Rob Nijboer studied guitar with Willem van Lier at the Conservatory of Groningen. In 1993, he obtained his degree as a teaching and performing artist, as well as a grant that allowed him to continue his studies with John Mills in London. Since then, he has participated in master classes with John Williams, Roberto Aussel, and Pavel Steidl. With soprano Marian van der Heide, he forms “Duo Abrazo”. She studied at the Conservatory of Groningen with Jitske Steendam, and continued her studies with Ann Monoyios (Paris) and Ronald Klekamp. Duo Abrazo performs South American and Spanish music by composers such as de Falla, Rodrigo, Piazzolla, and Falù. Their repertoire also includes works from the Renaissance. Recently, they recorded John Duarte’s “Five Quiet Songs” (1968). In addition, Rob is part of the quintet “Feca con Chele”, which mainly performs Argentinian tango music by Astor Piazzolla. He plays on a guitar by the Canadian luthier Sergei de Jonge.
